Melissa Powenski Therapy
I’m an NMC-registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) and BABCP-accredited CBT therapist, combining clinical expertise with a holistic understanding of mind and body. I bring warmth, compassion, and practical tools—integrating evidence-based therapy, mindfulness, breathwork, and movement—to help clients build insight, skills, and lasting change.
Melissa Powenski
Work with me on thoughts that just won’t go away and worries that you can not park. Are you struggling with how you feel about yourself? Is your self esteem in a place where you don’t recognise yourself? Are you fighting thoughts that you just arne’t good enough?
All of this can be changed and maybe it’s frightening to think about how you got here, but we can move things forward together.

Who I work with
Psychotherapy
I work with all ages and all abilities. I have experience in working with autism and intellectual disabilites so I can adapt and change my approach to suit the person in front of me. I have a psychoanalytic training and work experience from The Tavistock and Portman in my early career and I bring in to our work some of the patterns and difficulties that may be underlying the current challenges. Many people don’t want to focus on the past, we won’t, but we will move through understanding the highlights to unpick the present.
DBT informed practice
DBT is a specific type of therapy but skills from the therapy can be used and applied anywhere. I used worksheets and techniques that support you managing the more difficult moments.
Neurodiverse - informed and aware
Much of my career has circled working with neurodiverse young people and adults. I not only understand the importance of making it make sense for the person who maybe doesn’t know why they feel different, but I am able to point you in the right direction to get formal diagnosis and educate yourself in understanding your world.
Child and adolescent therapy
Working with young people, with complex trauma and needs has been a large part of my work. This includes working safely alongside family and healthcare services to ensure the young person feels supported, even if that feels the opposite at the time. Working with clear and transparent professional guidelines to support a young person through social challenges, relationship difficulties and developmentally appropriate concerns. This includes working across gender fluidity and questioning challenges that may arise and how this can impact family relationships.
Anxiety, Stress, and Depression
The most common but absolutely not limited to mental health challenges that people face. I often meet someone talking to me about one thing and that turns into an new challenge along the way. We are not one dimensional, we all carry our stories, experiences, thoughts and behaviours where sometimes, anxiety is high and sometimes, mood is low.
